At Viki, we believe in empowering our fans and community to spread their joy and fandom of Asian content. There are multiple ways our fans are able to do so currently on the platform. An important one is by subtitling their favorite shows. (Yes, you read that right!)

Thanks to community-contributed subtitles, we are able to make our shows accessible to millions of fans around the world in many languages. We couldn’t be more thankful to our Contributor Community and want to do a great job at making the subtitling process simpler for them.

We think we have just about done that. Please read on for more :)

🛠The Task:

Make the onboarding experience smoother for our Contributor Community.

What our user experiences in reality

As we can see, there was an opportunity to simplify the onboarding experience and set our community up for success so they can spend more time doing what they want and lesser time figuring how to do it.

So what did we do next? 🧠

We identified the main points of user confusion such as the ones listed below and defined success criteria for each of those.

The magic begins to bring our onboarding experience to life……

How do we know the design is not just about aesthetics but ACTUALLY useful and usable?

Numbers don’t lie

What’s next?

Now that we have made the onboarding process easier, we are on to our next task — making the process of subtitling more fun for our users.

We can’t wait to share Part 2 of this journey with you soon.

Till then, signing off.
